The Project

Following the fatal accident of the 15th of January 2018, Coviandes, the Bogota-Villavicencia highway operator, launched the invitation to tender for its reconstruction. The contractor Eiffage & Puentes y Torones requested setec tpi to design a cable-stayed alternative. Providing a different design solution than the original one was important for the client. Therefore, setec tpi proposed a V shaped pile design, plus aesthetic than the previous A shaped pile design, which lower cable failed.

The contract was awarded to the construction JV led by Eiffage. Setec tpi and terrasol (for all geotechnical aspects) produced, following the preliminary and detailed design, the works execution design. For this, they partnered with Gomez-setec, setec’s local subsidiary in Colombia, who produced the rebar plans of the piles and the embankments as well undertook the project’s site supervision.

With a vast expertise in cable-stayed bridges design, setec tpi develops rigorous calculations for the analysis of wind and seismic effects in structures.
